Being the seventh child of eleven children, Chef Webb grew up in a tight-knit family. He was nicknamed "the snack bandit" for sneaking baked goods his mom made and tucked away, as well as snacks from the house. His mom would find snack wrappers and crumbs behind his bed, giving him the nickname. He was always passionate about cooking since he was a child. Growing up on Cat Island, Bahamas, the first spark of an interest in cooking came from cooking and baking with his mother in their quaint kitchen in Arthur's town, where meals were always prepared in large quantities.. After graduating high school however, he learned the trade of carpentry and worked in several popular restaurants on the family Islands such as Eleuthera and Bimini. Being a "jack of all trades" Jerome gained knowledge and skills in these areas of trade before settling in Nassau where he landed the position of steward in the Nobu Atlantis kitchen. His desire to be a chef was rekindled after seeing the strategic dance between the chef, cooks, and kitchen staff. It is his belief that "every member of the kitchen staff plays a crucial role in the success of the operation." He showed interest in cooking to his head chef, and he was allowed to cook for him. He was then given the opportunity to showcase his competencies in the workflow of the kitchen during service and when a position opened for an entry level cook, he was recommended to apply and he did and what seemed to be a divine act, he received the Cook I position at the Nobu Atlantis.
While working at Nobu for a year, taking his love for the art of cooking seriously, Chef Jerome decided he wanted to sharpen his skills and decided to enroll in cooking school. After being told that he was too old at the age of 24 to start his culinary career, he did not allow that to deter his dream and goal of achieving training in the culinary field.
Chef Jerome would continue to graduate from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale Florida. He would then work at popular hotel resorts back in the Bahamas. He cooked at another popular resort on Jacksonville Beach in South Florida and at the Met Gala in New York. He would eventually start his own food stall, cooking and serving the community back home on Cat Island. Shortly after, Chef Webb applied for and accepted a position in Atlantic Canada.
Today Jerome is upholding the importance of family teaching his own kids the importance of having your own relationship with God. He is a devoted husband and a proud farther of three. He shares his love for cooking with his daughters and his son, cooking and baking as he did with his mother.
“It is my job to prepare you for when me and your mother are no longer around”, he tells his kids, and that “every young adult should at least know how to cook and clean for themselves”, as his mother would say to him.
Cooking is more than a passion for Chef Webb, cooking is his gift that he both enjoys doing and teaching his children and others.
